At the Founding Assembly in October 1999, the Association of Utility Companies Employers in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (UPKP in FBiH) was joined by 32 member companies with approximately 3,000 employees. Today, UPKP in FBiH has 64 member companies, employing over 8,000 people from all ten cantons of the Federation of BiH. These members are represented in the Board of Directors and Supervisory Board, elected by the UPKP Assembly. Since its establishment, UPKP in FBiH has operated successfully for 26 years. The work of its bodies and expert teams is carried out in accordance with the Statute and other general acts.
Through its work, UPKP in FBiH has actively participated in promoting the utility sector in the Federation of BiH, recognizing public utility companies (PUCs) as the primary implementers of these services and as essential to ensuring proper working and living conditions for all citizens. The Association has established sector-specific subcommittees to more precisely define problems and coordinate future activities.
At the 20th UPKP Assembly, a decision was adopted to change the name of the Association to: “Association of Utility Companies in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina”. The new name more clearly reflects the membership - specifically, “utility companies”, which is in line with their legal and functional role. Importantly, the acronym UPKP in FBiH remains unchanged and widely recognized.
Key topics addressed by UPKP in FBiH include:
Issues related to utility services and the challenges faced by all public utility companies are the lifeline of local communities and the country as a whole. Therefore, UPKP in FBiH continuously emphasizes the need for stronger engagement and involvement by all levels of government, from local to national, in resolving numerous open questions in the utility sector for the benefit of all.
UPKP in FBiH brings together professionals with extensive experience in the field, capable of contributing valuable proposals for resolving the many accumulated problems in utility companies. In addition to the activities of the Board of Directors and Supervisory Board, significant contributions are made by expert teams, working groups, and commissions, whose ongoing task is to monitor legislative developments and advocate for a better business environment for public utility companies in FBiH.
Through its work, UPKP in FBiH actively promotes sustainable water resource management, capacity building of its member companies, and raising awareness about the importance of clean drinking water. Participation in the “Just Add Water” campaign represents an opportunity to further affirm the water supply sector, network with related organizations, and engage young professionals from the utility sector in innovative activities that promote the vital importance of water for life and sustainable development.
